The voice of era dies at 68. Don LaFontaine is the voice behind thousands of commercials and movie trailers. He is by far the world’s most famous voice over artist. Not many people knew his name but everyone knows his voice. He is best known for his token phrase “It a World…” Recently, he gained some visibility by staring in a Gieco commercial as “that movie trailer guy.” Apparently he passed away from some lung problems.
I had the privilege to work with Don on a project about 2 years ago. I hired him to record some stingers for a live event I produced for PC Connection. It was an honor to work with him. He was professional and banged out the copy the first time around. He was the master and he will be missed.
